Ep.526 – SAG Episode 526: SAG Cartoon Express - In Search of the King

Captain N: The Game Master is Yuge on the Scrooge!

Show Notes

On this week’s podcast, Dan, Kris, and Dean climb aboard the SAG Cartoon Express to discuss the Captain N: The Game Master episode “In Search of the King.” Why is the King SO MUCH older than his daughter? How the heck did he get stuck in the Mirror Dimension in the first place? Why is everything in this show credited to Nintendo? So many questions, and so few answers.
At the top of the show, Dan finally gets his diagnosis, and has a plan of attack. Dean gets kicked out of his apartment, but gets a new house in the process, or at least the promise of a new house, and Kris gets a new TV, and can’t figure out how to make it not look like garbage. Meanwhile, Dan starts working through the Castlevania series in chronological order, and Dean and Kris played some games too, but none as interesting as Castlevania.
Finally, in Week Old News, more layoffs hit Bungie, GameStop tries to drive home the importance of physical media while unceremoniously canceling their physical magazine, Minecraft meets Tetris, an unreleased Lemmings arcade port gets a cabinet, and more. Enjoy!

Ep.525 – SAG Episode 525: The 10 20 30 40 for July 2024

A new, streamlined 10 20 30 40 to hopefully not bore you to sleep!

Show Notes

On this week’s podcast, Dan and Kris attack the 10 20 30 40 with renewed vim and vigor! Yes, preparations were made to try and streamline the process and hopefully make the segment more entertaining and less Kris reading lists while trying to stay awake. The bad news is, very little of note came out this month on any platforms. EXCEPT a Sega CD game with a fantastic title that’s hard to ignore. At the top of the show, Dan frustratingly didn’t hear back about his biopsy, but he did manage to beat Metroid Dread with a level of ease that positively infuriated Kris. Also there was some new stuff happening in Marvel Snap. Meanwhile, Kris pontificates on the joys of dealing with internet folks who have a loose grip on what facts are, and watches his kids enjoy the Nintendo World Championships far more than he expected! That new Rocket Knight collection is pretty snazzy too. Finally, in Week Old News, the creator of Save Me Mr. Tako has a new game on Kickstrater that looks rad as heck, there’s some long awaited movement on the Trogg Tech N64 Shells front, Nintendo strips Splatoon winners of their prizes and notoriety, AI continues to be used to steal from actual artists, and a whole lot more. Enjoy!

It’s certainly an interesting experience, but is it a good one? Listen on to find out!
At the top of the show, Dan finally got a biopsy done, and then came right onto the show post-surgery, because he loves you! All aboard the SAG Cartoon Express for The Adventures of Super Mario Bros. 3

On this week’s podcast, Dan, Kris, and Dean board the SAG Cartoon Express for a visit to the classic animated series The Adventures of Super Mario Bros. 3. This wretched cartoon pits everyone’s favorite plumbers against King Koopa’s neweast ally, Mighty Plumber, A TV Action hero that he somehow tricks into thinking Mario and Luigi are the bad guys. It's terrible, but is it at least fun? What exactly are the logistics of the windows in this show? Why are there surf rock songs sung by the Koopa Kids? Who knows? At the top of the show, Dan’s health concerns continue, but he’s at least a few steps closer to getting answers. While he navigates the US healthcare system, he’s playing through all the mainline Metroid games, or at least he would be if he could find his copy of Samus Returns. Meanwhile, Dean spent some quality time with some Vampire Survivors-like games, Castle Crashers, and Another Crab’s Treasure, which is apparently a lot tougher than it sounds. Kris, though, spent a ton of time with NSO, playing through Cobra Triangle, stressing out over Wario’s Woods, and actually enjoying Donkey Kong Jr. Math?!? Not E3 season concludes with the Sunsoft is Back 5, LRG3, and Nintendo Direct!

Show Notes

On this week’s podcast, Dan and Kris conclude their coverage of the summer games extravaganza they lovingly refer to as Not E3! This time around, Nintendo hit it big with their June Direct, including a number of big surprises like a new Mario & Luigi, Zelda starring Zelda, and Metroid Prime 4. Atooi also farted out a rather unimpressive Hatch Tales deepdive, Limited Run got weird with this year’s LRG3, and Sunsoft made a 6 minute presentation about 3 games. Which was certainly a choice.
At the top of the show, Dan still doesn’t have news about his ongoing health issues, but he did manage to be stressed about it all week! So instead of playing games, he talked about the trials and tribulations of being a toy collector. Meanwhile, Kris celebrated his birthday week with some delicious food, Game Boy Mega Man games, and the glory that is Shovel Knight Dig. .
Finally, in Week Old News, FromSoftware decides NOT to fire a bunch of people, a bunch of long thought lost games resurface for various platforms, someone has decided to port Doom II to Super NES, and more. Enjoy!

Ep.519 – Not E3 Recap Week 2

Not E3 season continues with the Xbox Showcase, Yacht Club Presents, and more!

Show Notes

On this week’s podcast, Dan and Kris continue their coverage of the summer games extravaganza they lovingly refer to as Not E3! This time around, they have a crazy number of showcases to break down, including the Future of Play Direct, Women Led Games Show, Ubisoft Forward, and honestly way too many more. So their summaries of many were cut a bit short because there’s just now ay to cover THAT many games. They did, however, dedicate the appropriate amount of time to the biggest show of the week, the Xbox Games Showcase. After Sony’s lackluster showing earlier this month, was Microsoft able to make the best of their time in the spotlight? Just how manly is Joanna Dark’s jawline? (Hint: the internet is full of goons). What other amazing games will we all be looking forward to? Let’s find out! At the top of the show, Dan gives us another update on his ongoing health issues, including numerous bouts of frustration with an inability to get actual answers. Meanwhile, Kris spent the week frustrated and tired. So good times were had all around! Oh, and then there’s this dreadful song that his son has been listening to, and now you have to as well. Finally, in Week Old News, the first North American Nintendo commercial may have been unearthed, the PC gaming community continues to be as impressive as they are fast, a Kickstarter for a new NWC cartridge gets unsurprisingly shut down, a woman is arrested for smuggling an absurd number of Switch games in her bra, and more. Enjoy!

It’s Not E3 season! Time to discuss all the games that were announced this week.

Show Notes

On this week’s podcast, Dan and Kris are unfortunately not joined by Dean for th Cartoon Express because of dogs. (No really, there were dogs involved). But fortunately, there’s a metric ton of new game news to talk about! That's right, it’s officially Not E3 season, and this week was host to a crazy amount of new game announcements that warrant discussion. How did Geoff Keighley’s soulless Summer Game Fest do? How did we not know about the annual Homebrew showcase? Why in the world would Kris be excited about the Power Rangers? Listen on to find out!
At the top of the show, Dan updates everyone on his health situation, and what his impending diagnosis could mean for him, while Kris talks about the joys of taking his daughter to her first baseball game. There's also a lot of talk about Star Wars and Doctor Who, because Dan and Kris are nerds.
Finally, in Week Old News, a bunch of stolen Playdates find their way home in unusual fashion, Google is responsible for a bunch ofNintendo leaks, Hatch Tales is delayed AGAIN, and Twitter continues to be a foul place full of grifters trying to profit off anger and hate. Gross. Enjoy!

Ep.517 – SAG Episode 517: What Games Came Out in May 1984, 1994, 2004, and 2014?

It’s time for the May 10-20-30-40? Will there finally be some good games?

Show Notes

On this week’s podcast, Dan and Kris tackle the May 10 20 30 40, where they look back at notable game releases from 10, 20, 30, and 40 years ago this month. But these last few entries haven’t been all that spectacular overall. Will this month be any different? Will the PS2 or Intellivision save the day, or will a baby of mundane releases suck all the fun out of things yet again? We’ll find out!
At the top of the show, Dan gets hit with a sudden bout of hypochondria, but still has time to play some rounds of Balatro. Meanwhile, Kris had a Memorial Day party and finally got to play a proper local 6-player match of Shredder’s Revenge, plus some classic Wii Sports and X-Men arcade. He also gives his less than stellar impressions of Lunar Lander Beyond.
Finally, in Week Old News, it’s Not-E3 season, and Sony andMArvelout Entertainment kicked things off with some… well they certainly were game showcases. State of Play lacked farming simulations because Marvelous had them all, Astro makes a fantastic-looking comeback, and Silent Hill 2 looks kind of off. Also, more gross gamer discourse online, people are modding CRTs, Legend of Zelda LEGOs are officially a thing, and a whole lot more! Enjoy!
