Ep.297 – SAG Episode 297: I Have Scrooge McDuck in Puzzle & Dragons

Can GameStop be saved?

Show Notes

This week, there have been some management changes at GameStop, including Nintendo’s Reggie Fils-Aime joining their ranks, but can anything save the company of extinction? More importantly, should it be saved? Dan and Kris discuss.

Meanwhile, at the top of the show, Kris continues to build LABO kits and run through the Zelda series with his son, the magic of music in video games, and of course, the Final Fantasy VII Remake demo that landed on the PS4. It’s been a bit more divisive than expected, but is that a good thing, or will it only serve to alienate fans of the original?

And now, the 10 20 30 40!

Show Notes

This week, Dan and Kris expand the reach of their regular monthly segment with the first 10 20 30 40, discussing notable game releases from 10, 20, 30, and 40 years ago. They cover February 2010’s anemic Wii releases, February 2000’s killer Dreamcast lineup, February 1990’s double hitter of Batman and Super Mario Bros. 3, and theoretical February 1980’s Atari 2600 games. At the top of the show, Dan naturally spent some time with PAD, but he also enjoyed a sort of interactive movie along the same lines of games like Heavy Rain and such. Meanwhile, Kris went ahead and preordered Animal Crossing, played more Zelda and Kid Icarus, and lamented the games he knows he should be playing but isn’t. Plus, the return of Tiger LCD games, the art of Nintendo Power, a potential sequel to The Messenger, and more!

The state of video game movies

Show Notes

Kris saw the Sonic the Hedgehog movie. Was it good? Was it bad? Does it really matter? Using Sega’s latest attempt to make a quality video game movie as an example, Dan and Kris talk all about the state of movies based on existing properties, what they get right, what they’re getting wrong, and what the future might look like. At the top of the show, Dan runs into some dog-related troubles, while Kris gets into a fist fight with a refrigerator. Plus, Kid Icarus games on 3DS, the addictive nature of Nintendo LABO Fishing, Animal Crossing fears, and more!

Ep.293 – SAG Episode 293: This Sounds 100% Like Osmosis Jones

SAG Presents: What If?!

Show Notes

Dan and Kris decide to ignore all the obvious holidays like Valentine’s Day and instead focus their attention on some “What if” scenarios. Have you ever heard of Marvel’s “What If?” comics? They basically posit a question like “What if Venom had possessed The Punisher?,” “What if Wolverine battled Conan the Barbarian?,” or “What if Aunt May became the Herald of Galactus?” Dan and Kris discussed “What if” scenarios for Metal Gear, Metroid, and the video game industry as a whole. At the top of the show, Kris discusses fried chicken, his son’s ability to recognize obscure Zelda music, and the words of Tommy Tallarico. Meanwhile, Dan keeps us all updated on PAD, and a whole lot more!

With the new year upon them, Dan and Kris (or is it Kris and Dan?) take a look ahead with their 2020 year in preview. Kris has a few titles he’s looking forward to, but faced with an onslaught of high priority titles headed Dan’s way, how will he choose what to play? In the top half of the show, “Dan” discusses the recent Puzzle and Dragons outage, and what he did to cope during this difficult time. Kris, on the other hand, moved around to Ring Fit Adventure, made some fish with LABO, laughed at the new West of Loathing DLC, and more!

Nothing but STAAAAAAR WAAAARS

Show Notes

In this very special episode of SAG the boys delve deep into their feelings about the new Star Wars movie "Rise of Skywalker". Games of the Decade

Show Notes

What’s better than a Golden Caveman? A Platinum Caveman! Dan and Kris have combed through every single game release of the past ten years and determined what their favorite games of the decade were. Did Dan give God of War the greatest honor available? Did Kris blindly choose Kid Icarus Uprising instead of putting actual thought into it? Did Portal 2 beat everything else? In the top half of the show, Dan and Kris discussed a handful of news stories, including big delays from Square, a fancy new Doom trailer, and some frankly retrospectively hilarious Smash Bros DLC discussions. And as always, a healthy round of what they’ve been playing.
