Ep.306 – SAG Episode 306.1: Talking with Tommy Tallarico Pt.1

Talking Intellivision Amico

Show Notes

This week, Dan and Kris finally got to sit down with Intellivision Amico CEO Tommy Tallarico. They discussed everything from who the Amico is being marketed to, what happened to Advent Rising, how the music for Earthworm Jim was composed, and a whole lot more.

It was a heck of a long conversation, so the episode had to be split into 2 parts. This is part 1.

It's May MAY-nia: Round 1

Show Notes

This week, Dan and Kris kick off May MAY-nia! It’s kind of like March Madness, except it’s in May and it’s two guys on a podcast instead of college athletes. The first round, bracket, whatever you call it, is Adventure games. And boy, did we ever stretch the definition of “adventure” for this category. Still, it’s a pretty fun conversation, so enjoy!

At the top of the show, Dan played more games, but he also built a retaining bench for his backyard. What’s a retaining bench? That’s hard to define, but it’s absolutely NOT a retaining wall. Meanwhile, Kris continued to feverishly play Animal Crossing and Super Mario Maker 2. There’s more, too!

Ep.304 – SAG Episode 304: And Always, Finally

The Current State of Remakes

Show Notes

This week, Dan and Kris discuss the state of video game remakes. With so many heavy hitting remakes in the world lately, and approaches ranging from unchanged to a fault in games like The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening, to near unrecognizable from a gameplay standpoint like in Final Fantasy VII Remake, the guys try to come around on what makes a good remake, and which approach, if any, is better.

At the top of the show, Kris follows up with GameStop (who still haven’t followed up with him), Dan talks about some TV shows he’s been keeping up on, plus big Mario Maker 2 update impressions, listener mail, and a whole lot more!

Ep.303 – SAG Episode 303: It's Golf-ful

Lots of great games... and Golf!

Show Notes

This week, Dan and Kris dive into the April 10 20 30 40, talking about notable releases from 10, 20, 30, and 40 years ago this month. Monster Hunter hit the Wii, Metal Gear Solid hit the game Boy Color, Bonk made his debut on the TurboGrafx-16, Golf, well, golfed on the Atari 2600 (maybe), and a whole lot more, too!

At the top of the show, Dan gave his in-depth impressions of the Final Fantasy VII Remake, and how much he loves it. It’s a lot, in case you didn’t know. Kris, on the other hand, had some choice words for GameStop’s customer service, continued his Zelda quest with his kids, and played a little Final Fantasy VII himself, just not the remake.

Ep.302 – SAG Episode 302: Cinnamon Toast Crunch, but Racist

It's a cereal, WOW!

Show Notes

This week, Dan and Kris spend way more time than any sane person should discussing both existing and theoretical video game themed breakfast cereals. Which were their favorites? Were any of their inventions grounded in reality? Was this in fact the dumbest episode of the Stone Age Gamer Podcast ever?

Meanwhile, at the top of the show, Kris travels back to the original East Tod with his copy of Animal Crossing for GameCube, laments the unreasonable awfulness of Nintendo Switch Online and the Water Temple from Ocarina of Time, and checks out the StarFox comics from Nintendo Power. Dan, on the other hand, hasn’t played nearly as much Final Fantasy VII Remake as he would have liked, but how much does he love what he has spent time with? Find out now!

Have a seat on Dan's casting couch

Show Notes

This week, Dan and Kris return to somewhat normalcy. With a Metal Gear Solid movie supposedly in the works (for real this time), Dan thought it would be a fun idea to set up a sort of SAG Podcast “casting couch” to try and figure out who should be cast in each role.

At the top of the show, the guys catch up with all the games they’ve been playing in quarantine. One thing’s for sure, a LOT of Animal Crossing has been played. But what else has kept them company in these trying times? Find out now!

Space Invaders makes fart sounds!

Show Notes

As we finish gearing up for the grand finale of the Stone Age Gamer Podcast Trivia Tournament of Champions, Dan and Kris tackle the March 10 20 30 40, covering games like Space Invaders, Ninja Golf, Street Fighter Alpha, and a whole lot more.

Meanwhile, at the top of the show, with Dan and Kris in quarantine (there’s a sentence we never expected to write) find out what they’ve been playing to pass the time. Hint: Kris has been playing a LOT of Animal Crossing. Plus, GameStop’s crappy behavior, the Nindies Direct, PS5 information, and more!

Can GameStop be saved?

Show Notes

This week, there have been some management changes at GameStop, including Nintendo’s Reggie Fils-Aime joining their ranks, but can anything save the company of extinction? More importantly, should it be saved? Dan and Kris discuss.

Meanwhile, at the top of the show, Kris continues to build LABO kits and run through the Zelda series with his son, the magic of music in video games, and of course, the Final Fantasy VII Remake demo that landed on the PS4. It’s been a bit more divisive than expected, but is that a good thing, or will it only serve to alienate fans of the original?
